Class Descriptions
Preschool Dance 2 1/2-4 years, 3-4 years is a class that emphasizes gross & fine motor skills and ballet & tap basics. Students learn fun, creative dances while strengthening muscles and gaining balance and coordination.
The Combination Class for 4-6 & 5-8 year olds emphasizes ballet, jazz and tap basics. Students learn proper technique and alignment in a fun, creative manner. No experience necessary.
The Combination Class for 6-9 year olds emphasizes ballet, jazz and tap. Students work on technique & alignment and learn combinations. It is recommended that students have 1 year or more experience for this class, but may try it with no experience.
Ballet classes emphasize classical ballet technique. Classes consist of barre work, stretching and movement combinations.
Jazz classes emphasize classical jazz dance combined with more contemporary dance movement. Jazz classes consist of center warm-up exercises that include isolations, stretching and strengthening as well as combinations in center and across the floor. **Ballet is highly recommended.
Hip Hop is street style jazz class and consists of center warm up, isolations and combinations of movement.
Hip Hop Teams (Junior: age 11-13, Senior: Teen) are hip hop classes that have 4-5 performances and require an audition.
Tap consists of sound and rhythm patterns of the feet.
Stretch & Strengthen involves strengthening of isolated muscle groups in addition to stretching techniques taken from Yoga & Pilates.
Modern dance classes emphasize traditional modern dance technique and movement. ** Ballet must be taken.
Lyrical is interpretive dance based on Ballet technique. **Ballet must be taken.
Leaps & Turns is a class for Intermediate-Advanced students (age 13+) that helps to improve leaps & turns by use of strength building and poly metric exercises. Students will learn spotting techniques and the anatomy of turns and will apply these to floor and center progressions.
Choreography is a class for Intermediate-Advanced students (age 11+) that emphasizes using spacial elements, developing floor patterns, using time, rhythm and tempo in choreography. Students will learn how to use improvisational techniques as well as elements of choreography.
Musical Theatre is a class that emphasizes broadway style dance and movie musical dance (ie: Annie, High School Musical, Hairspray, etc.)
Mini Co., Junior Co. and Senior Co. are classes for students who want to dance extensively and are provided with many performance opportunities and workshops. **Audition is required.
Mini Co. 1, 2 & 3 : age 7-9 yr., 8-10 yr., 9-11 yr.–meets only 1x per week
Junior Co.: age 9-10, 11-13 yr. meets 2x per week.
Senior Co.: Teen: meets 2-3x per week
Production is a class for any student age 8+. This is a fun opportunity for students to participate in a large group that will perform in all recitals. **Students must take another class in any dance discipline to be eligible. No experience necessary.
Movement for Teens is a class designed for busy teens that cannot make a full year commitment to dance but still want to learn new steps and choreography. Classes in the areas of tap, jazz, musical theatre and ballet will be held in 2-month sessions, and every 2 months the dance style will change. Drop in students are welcome, and this is a non-performance class.
Dance Club meets once a month on Saturday afternoons. Kids learn a dance, have a snack, and make a craft. The age is 7+, and the cost is $5 per student. Dates will be posted on the calendar each month.
